It may seem like a basic question, but actually has quite a detailed answer. In this article, we will disect the contents of the audit report along with their intended purpose; these are as follows:

  1. What are the list of articles included in the audit?

  2. What are results for the overall audit?

  3. What are target keywords for each article?

  4. What are results for each individual article?

  5. What is Performance score?

Note: Reference to "article" in this guide means any post, page, category page, product, product category page or custom post type.

Let's dive in!

What are the list of articles included in the audit?

  • You can set which categories, pages, etc. to audit in settings. These define the audit scope:

  • Individual articles can be added or excluded manually.

Some articles that meet the scope of the audit, may still be omitted from the audit report; see below:

  • Any article with errors (we send queries to Google API and Ahrefs API, and they may sometimes return an error) during the audit.

  • Newly published articles (Waiting time after publication or update option in Settings >> Scope of audit page).

  • Any noindex, non-canonical and redirecting article.

  • Any article added since last content audit - it is also excluded:

What are results for the overall audit?

You are shown:

  • Suggested target keywords.

  • Suggestions and recommendations (access these by clicking on the suggestion badge) for each article or reason as to why it was not included in the content audit.

  • Performance score value.

What are results for each individual article?

The results for each of the individual articles are the suggestions (Do nothing, Update, Merge, Exclude). They are based on:

  • Total traffic and organic traffic values received from Google Analytics Reporting API or Google Analytics Data API,

  • Backlinks number received from Ahrefs API.

  • Position of the article's target keyword, received from Google Console Search API.

  • Traffic median of all active articles included in the content audit. This value is based on a monthly total traffic of all included articles. It is calculated using finite data set of numbers; learn more about median calculation here.

You can see a detailed description of the issue and how to solve it for each article by clicking on the suggestion button:

What are target keywords for each article?

Every target keyword may be suggested by the plugin or approved by the user. It is important to choose the right target keywords, since the content audit is based on articles' ranking performance for those keywords.

Hence, we strongly recommend to Review the suggested target keywords after each content audit, to see if there are any keywords which aren't approved:

What is "Performance score"?

This score shows the percentage of well-performing pages out of all included pages of the audit (does not include pages/posts excluded from analysis).
