Content gap is a handy tool that can be used to check what organic keywords that other websites rank for, that your target website does not rank for. You can use this tool to:

  1. Find new content opportunities to grow your website’s traffic

  2. Analyze your competitors’ content strategy

  3. Pitch guest posts with a compelling reason

Content gap can be found as one of the tools under Competitive Analysis in the top navbar:

You’ll then be greeted with this page. Make sure you have the Keywords option selected.

  1. Enter in the target domain, or URL here. Suggestions will show up based on what you type in. If you want to compare only a single page against other pages, select “Exact URL” in the scope:

  2. In a similar fashion, enter in Competitor URLs. You can enter up to 10 competitors to compare against.

  3. Click on “Show keyword opportunities” to generate the Compare Gap report.

Hovering over the position number for that keyword will show the top ranking page of the competitor, for this keyword. Clicking on this number will open the page.

How to use filters in Content gap report

Compared to the old Content gap report, there are now many more filters you can use:

The upper set of filters allows you to filter for keywords in different locations, time frames, or specific metrics such as KD and Traffic.

The lower set of filters allows you to filter for specific position ranges that either the target or competitor URLs rank for.

Clicking on an intersecting section between two URLs also allow you to see the content gap between those two URLs only:
